I’ve been thinking about body confidence a lot recently. I am on my own journey to becoming completely happy with my body and I was wondering how other people felt about their body confidence.
So, I asked a few polls about body confidence on Twitter.
The first thing that I asked on Twitter was whether or not you were body confident.
The results were pretty much as expected. Hardly anyone was completely body confident which is actually pretty sad. I was pleased to find out that 58% of the voters said that they were somewhat confident though.
I then went on to ask whether you judged people on their body image.
After seeing what people had voted for on this poll I was so upset. We live in a society where everyone wants look like whatever they want to but at the same time, we are judging other people. Way more people said that they judged people on their body image than people who didn’t judge.
I do understand that you need to have some level of judgement on someone’s appearance. If your gut says not to go near someone for your own safety then I completely get it. What I do understand is how you can see someone and judge then on their body image.
I feel like I need to tell you all a little story. A few years ago, when I was sat in a car with someone I once knew, a young girl walked past and headed into the shop nearby. The person who I was with turned to me and said “She is so anorexic”. That sentence just made me so angry! We had never see that girl before, we didn’t know her name and we knew absolutely nothing about the girl. Just writing out this story makes me angry to this day.
As people who knew nothing about the girl, we were in no position to make a judgement on the girl!
So, I asked another question on Twitter.
I wanted to know whether or not your body image has a impact on how much you ate.
The results of this was a little upsetting too. Almost half of the people who answered had said that their body imagine impacts how much they eat.
All I want to say is that these polls show that no one is completely happy with their body image so how about a little less judgement and a little more love and support?!
