My Family’s Christmas Traditions

I’ve always found it great how everyone does Christmas differently.

We wouldn’t change our current Christmas traditions for anything as they make our Christmas just that little bit more special. We are however open to new traditions and each year we seem to pick up a few more along the way.

Advent Calendars

Advent calendar

Every year for as long as I can remember, I have had an advent calendar. Every morning, I eagerly open the door to find a little chocolatey treat.

Christmas Eve Pantomime

Every year, my family goes to a Christmas themed pantomime. It’s so much fun and it’s great for distracting from the boring night before Christmas. Is it just me who used to hate Christmas eve? I just found all the waiting so boring and suspenseful. But, now that we go to a pantomime, I don’t feel so bored at Christmas eve.

Building gingerbread houses

One of my favourite things about the Christmas season is getting to build lots of gingerbread houses. I find them so fun to decorate and I love doing it every year. Whether I build one with my sisters or my boyfriend, I always have fun.

Stockings and presents

In my home, we wake up on Christmas morning (about 5am) and we open our stockings. They are usually full of things like stationery, jewellery and chocolate coins. Stockings are probably my favourite part of Christmas as we all go and sit on my parent’s bed and open then together.

What traditions do you have at Christmas time?

These all sound like amazing traditions! I love making gingerbread houses and hanging stockings as well. Oh and of course chocolate advent calendars.

Lovely post! I’ve seen a few of these traditions posts around and they’re always nice to read. When I was a lot younger, like 12/13 we used to have a tradition of going to a pantomine which they put on every year at this theatre about half an hour from us. We loved the cast and I remember going backstage and meeting some of them once! We don’t really have any proper traditions because things have changed over the year. My dad always takes my Granddad out for a drink on Christmas Day which is nice for him but that’s about it! Hope you have a lovely Christmas <3

I love these traditions, I have two baby girls who I can’t wait to make Christmas traditions with. We do though have a Christmas Eve tradition where we all get together exchange gifts and have a Chinese take-away, it’s really fun and something I look forward to.

I thought I was one of the only ones that still has an advent calendar haha, it’s wouldn’t be the same without them! It was always my favourite waking up early in the morning and having my stocking there when I was younger, and then going to my sister and opening it together. Haha, sadly it’s not the same as we get older but it still is a lovely day! Watching TV and Christmas TV on the day and just enjoying each others company! 🙂

I love reading people’s traditions! I used to LOVE going to the Christmas pantomime when I was a child! Our main traditional is going bowling on Christmas even 😊

I love this post! Stockings are the best Christmas tradition! I definitely don’t get up quite as early as you do for them though!- https://sophiehearts.net x
