My 2018 Reading Goals

I am very much a goals orientated person. I love to know that I am working towards something and it makes me feel more accomplished when I complete my goals.

Read 30 Books

I like a challenge so I am setting my reading challenge to 30 books. Last year, I only set is to 20 books and I didn’t see that as much as a challenge so I hardly read any books. But this year, I’m going to push myself and I WILL read 30 books. Even if they are all graphic novels or manga, I will do it!

Read Every Night Before Bed

At night, I find myself laying in bed scrolling through Twitter and Instagram. Because of this, I am completely wasting valuable reading time. If I’m not going straight to sleep, the new goal is to read at least one chapter before bed.

Read more classics

During school time, we had to read lots of classic novels for English literature. Because of this, I sort of begrudged reading classics for a while. However, this year, I am going to force myself to read them.

The first classic book that I plan to read is Of Mice and Men. We read this book in school and I absolutely loved it so I thought I would read it again.

Stop buying books and actually read what on my TBR

I wrote a post about my entire TBR and it was a long one. 2018 is the year that I’m hopefully going to read a lot of my TBR instead of heading to the library or buying more books. Of course, I’ll still check out the library because you should support your local libraries, Kids.

What are your reading goals for 2018? I would love to hear them or if there’s something that I should add to my list of goals then let me know.

Brilliant goals, Eleanor! I hope you smash all of them! I’ve set my Goodreads challenge at 35 books this year which for me, is quite ambitious as last year was 30 and I failed it by 2 books – SO ANNOYING! I tend to not buy books anymore unless I really really want them too because I have far too many on my shelf and I wish I was into Classics because I’d love to read them but they’re just not my thing really! xxx

Hi, great reading goals I wish I could try the reading before bed but I am rubbish at it.

I loved this post! I have a slight book addiction and I’m not afraid to admit it. Although I have the same problem where I own so many books I’ve never read, yet I keep buying more.

I’m currently going through my kindle ands re reading all my books from the top down ( to save money) and because there are so many I’ve forgotten half of them anyway!

I have never read Of Mice and Men but I need to see what the hype is about!! Great reading goals! X

See I’m not much of a reader, well I used to be as a child and then fell out of love with books. Right now I think it’s somerhing I need in my life, so at the grand old age of 27 & 3/4 I’ve set up my good reads account and my first yearly challenge. It’s only 12 books, one a month. But it’s a start =D

Will have to keep an eye on any updates you do to keep me motivated and on track!

I love this post! I need to read more books, I have a stack on my shelf that are looking pretty but need to open and get stuck in! I’m the same as you, as soon as I see a book I want, I’ll buy it! Hope you spend your year getting into some very exciting books!

Good luck with your reading goals! I need to start reading before bed too x

This is such a great post Eleanor 💖. I can complete relate to the scrolling through Twitter & insta before bed and missing out on reading time. I always have good intentions to read a book then get distracted 🙈. I’m going to try and focus better this year and actually read the books on my bookshelf. I have Wonder too – I’m looking forward to reading that!😘 xx

Reading before bed instead of pointlessly scrolling through twitter and instagram is definitely one of my goals too!

I liked reading your blog post & I can totally relate to this. I want to read more & I think goal setting is a way to do it. I also sit on Insta or Twitter but like you said it’s valuable reading time. I’ll even try replacing that time with some reading. Enjoy reading & good luck with your target.

One of my goals for this year is to read more and I’m trying to read every night before bed too, I’ve missed a few but i’m reading more than before x

Good luck with your goals gal! This post has really motivated me to start reading again. I used to read maybe 2 books a week a few years back but fell out of the habit when I got busy with life 🙁 Definitely going to follow in your footsteps and set myself some sort of reading related goal xo

Your last point could literally BE ME – I’m dreadful for buying books, it’s as if i’m worried they’re endangered and will go extinct if i don’t pick them up RIGHT THAT SECOND! So you’ve definitely inspired me to work through the pile i’ve got, before making anymore purchases. I’m also with you on reading before bed and turning off my phone, as i know it’s messing up my sleep pattern and i need to sort that before uni!

30 books, wow! I’m desperately trying to finish one of the 3 I’ve got going at the moment. I wrote a post last year about how to read more books as a busy parent and totally ignoring my own advice… oops! Good luck!!

reading more is a goal I really need to achieve as I’ve become so lazy about it. I used to love to read and I really do need to get back into the habit of it as I know I could love it again! I’m working on the classic persuasion right now so we have a little bit of a similar goal there! Lovely post! Brynn

I’m a huge bookworm and I’m forever guilty of buying new books before I’ve read the ones I’ve already bought! I could do with reading more classics myself actually so I might make that one of my own goals!x

OMG! I do this all the time. I tell myself I’m going to read before going to bed and… I just waste all my reading time on my phone. Will be working on that too in the New Year. Good luck!

My life is so busy, it’s hard to find time to read. My secret weapon is Audible. I have an hour commute and often have to travel for work. Long airplane rides, stuck in airports–if I have an Audible book on my phone or tablet, I barely notice the long waits, and the commute home sails by. I get through about four books a month this way, easily–and still have time and energy for more reading! 🙂

Ah but when you stop buying books you stop adding to your TBR and then you RUN OUT aaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Buying books is good for the soul and I have just embraced it to be honest 🙂 Great post!
    Love Pen x

Everything you’ve mentioned is so relatable! My TBR needs some TLC! I must stop adding to it! 😮😂
