Let’s Get Ready To Rumble

I joined a boxing class. I repeat, I joined a boxing class. Who would have ever guessed that I would decide to join a boxing class?

I am not a very fit person. My idea of exercise is walking from the sofa to the kitchen to make food. Recently, I decided that I didn’t want to be that person. I don’t want to be the person who is just super lazy. I took it upon myself to look up some clubs that I could join in the local area. I wanted a club that wouldn’t physically kill me but would also challenge me a little. I came across a boxing club. At first I thought that it would be awful and that I am definitely not the type of person to do boxing but after a little think, I decided that it might actually be good for me. Not only would it increase my physical fitness, it would also give me confidence.

Yesterday I attended my first ever boxing class. I want to say that it was an complete success and I loved it all the way though but that would be a lie.

First of all, something I am not usually too willing to share is that I suffer with anxiety making joining new club extremely difficult. I stood outside the door of the building for around 2 minutes before I actually managed to pursade myself to walk in. For me, that would probably have been one of my biggest achievement of the whole experience. Now I know that it’s not going to be as bad as I make out in my head.

The lesson itself was actually fun all together. That would not be including the first 15 minutes. For those awful minutes of hell, we had to do a very intense workout. I do occasionally workout. However, nothing I have ever done in my entire life could prepare me for those terrible 15 minutes. It was 15 minutes of solid workout at a very fast pase. I ended up running to the toilets to vomit. Not the best start to a new class.

I decided I wasn’t going to quit there. When I returned the the class we had moved on and started doing some things that were more fun and that probably wouldn’t make me vomit. I actually really enjoyed the rest of the class. We did weights, boxing in the ring, boxing with the bags and aerobics. I even made a friend.

I think from this experience I learnt that I can do something new. I also learnt that if at first things seem difficult, don’t give up. I am definitely going back to the class next week.
