Everyone goes through those times where they feel a little bit unmotivated. It’s easy to fall into a slump and end up doing nothing. In fact, sometimes we get into such a slump that even thinking about making positive changes seems too difficult.
When you end up in a slump like that, there’s a few changes that can be made to get you up and going again.
1. Focus on one goal.
Sometimes there’s so much going on in our lives that we can get overwhelmed. People often make the mistake of focusing on too many things at once and then end up feeling stressed. You have to choose one goal, for now, and focus on it completely. By stopping everything to focus on only one goal, you eliminate some stress. You can always do your other goals when you’ve accomplished your one goal.
2. Get excited.
If you want to break out of a slump then you need to get excited about your life and goal(s). It can be hard to get excited when you don’t feel motivated so try talking to people about your goal, write it down and keep repeating your goal to yourself. Once I’ve done that, it’s just a matter of carrying that energy forward and keeping it going.
3. Get support.
It’s hard to accomplish something alone. Find your support network, either in the real world or online, or both. Encourage them to encourage you. You’ll probably find the support really helpful.
4. Stick with it.
Whatever you do, don’t give up. Even i you’re not feeling motivated that day, week or month, stay focused on your goal and keep on trying. The motivation that you need will come back in time and you will be about to accomplish your goal(s). Stay with it for the long term and you’ll get there.
5. Negate any negative thoughts.
It’s important to keep track of your thoughts. Being to recognise when you think negatively and eliminate those thoughts and turn them to positive. Stay replacing ‘This is too hard’ with ‘I can do this’, it really works.
