How to Create a Fictional Character

Every story needs at least one character. Creating a character is not always easy.

1. Think of a name.
This could be the first name that pops into your head. The name you give your character at the beginning is not set in stone. I just use naming the character as a way for me to identify with them.

2. Work out what you need from your character.
This will depend on what genre you are writing. You character will need to fit into the story.

3. Write some basic information.
Decide on things such as age, gender, location and appearance.

4. Give your character some quirks and an attitude.
This will change how they act thought out your story. Giving your character quirks is a good way of making them unique. You can revel these through out the story. You don’t want to give everything away at once.

5. Relate to your character.
This will make it easier for you to decide how they would act in situations.

Everyone goes about creating characters differently, but this is how I do it.
