6 Things People With Borderline Personality Disorder Want You To Know

As a someone with borderline personality disorder, I feel like it’s my job to try to educate other’s about the issue so that people can stop thinking that we do what we do for attention or that we are just ‘crazy bitches’.

Just a quick trigger warning, this post will talk about topics such as suicide and self harm.

BPD can make it difficult to regulate your emotions.

Personally, I’m extremely sensitive. The speed that my emotions can change is just absolutely breathtaking. The emotions that I do feel tend to be extremely strong. I will either be on a complete high or feeling very low.

We would change if we could but we can’t.

We don’t mean to act the way that we do. Trust me, we don’t mean to get so angry and we don’t mean to get so upset, we just can’t help it.

BPD can make it really hard to maintain relationships.

Because I’m so sensitive, I can often get upset by situations very easily. A simple disagreement will seem like a huge argument. On top of that, BPD causes a large fear of abandonment.

We aren’t just doing it for attention.

So many people think that BPD suffers are just doing it for attention and they couldn’t be further from the truth. Many BPD suffers self harm at least once and this is often looked at as a way of seeking attention. But believe me, choosing to self harm is a very distressing situation and no one would do that for attention.

A lot of times, people living with BPD are also living with other disorders.

Take me for example, I live with BPD but I also have depression and anxiety. BPD is related to these illnesses and they all get treated together.

Please be patience with us.

We are all trying our hardest to get by so please just be patience with us.

Thankyou for sharing about this 🙂 It’s something that needs to be talked about a lot more. There are still so many people who don’t know what BPD is! x

You are so right on, I’ve done 3 rounds of Psych for nursing (currently work with some with this), not all understands the mix of emotions you will experience, thank you for taking the time to share it.
