Be Kind To Yourself

I remember once in psychotherapy, I was told to wish well thoughts for a loved one. It was easy. I envisioned someone who I care about and I wished for them to be well. I then had to wish well thoughts for a friend. It was also easy. I closed my eyes and imagined a friend, I wished for them to be well. Lastly, I had to wish well thoughts for myself. I closed my eyes but it just wasn’t as easy. It’s hard to be nice to yourself sometimes but so easy to be kind to others. We often forget that we need to be nice to ourselves first before we can start to be kind to others.

What is self-compassion?!

When we feel compassion for others, we feel kindness toward them and a desire to help reduce their suffering. It’s the same when you are compassionate toward yourself. Self-compassion creates a caring space within you that is free of judgment—a place that sees your hurt and your failures and softens to allow those experiences with kindness and caring.

Why we need self-compassion?!

Just imagine what you could achieve if you were a little kinder to yourself. It would allow you to build self-trust and inner strength. You would feel cared for and looked after regardless of the external circumstances you are in.

How To Be Kind To Yourself

Take some time for yourself. Every day take a little time for yourself to do something that you enjoy. It could be something small even such as painting your nails or going for a walk.

Forgive yourself. We all mess up at times. Allow yourself to be forgiven because life is too short to hate yourself over one mistake.

Take care of yourself. Drink water, have a shower, eat your meals and just look after yourself.

There’s only one person in the world you’ll always have a relationship with, and that’s yourself. So you might as well make it as positive relationship.

    I love to be nice to myself..but after having my daughter, all i think about is her.. after reading this, yea i need to think about myself too

    This is a great post. Being kind to yourself to me also means balance, besides we can only give what we have if we stary by being kind to ourselves it will be easier to be kind to others.
