How Get a Penpal and Start Snail Mailing

There’s something amazing about snail mail. Messaging friends and talking to people is all just so easy now. All you need to do is grab your phone. Personally, I feel that this is making conversations so boring and short. No thought is put into a conversation anymore. That is what I personally love about having a penpal. You really think about what you are going to say to your friend and you can really put a lot of thought into your letters making them special to read.

Getting a penpal is pretty simple and I’m going to tell you how you can find one.

Finding Your Penpals

First of all you need to start by finding someone you want to write to. There are multiple ways that you can go about doing this. You could start by looking on Instagram. There are many hastags you can search so that you can find hundreds of people also looking for a penpal. Some of the hastags you can search are #PenpalsWanted, #PenpalsNeeded, #HappyMailWanted, #LettersWanted, and the obvious #penpals.  You can also find penpals through Penpal websites. My person favourote website would be Interpals. Through this website I have met some lovely people. The only problem with this website is that there can be a couple of creepy people.

The next thing you need to do is contact the person. This can be a little dauting at first if youre a little bit shy. Personally, I find it difficult to contact someone as I don’t want to be rejected. When you have found someone that you want to write to, pluck up the courage and message them. Start off by introducing yourself. Eventually, you can exchange addresses and start sending letters. Make sure to be careful when giving out your address to people over the internet.

Now it is time to write your letter. This is the fun part. Start off by introducing yourself and saying some fun and interesting things about yourself. If you are looking for some inspiration on what to write about, feel free to check out this post here.

What You’ll Need

A Sturdy box. Your going to end up collecting a lot of penpal supplies as well as a lot of letters. Trust me, you won’t want to throw away those penpal letters.

Book of Stamps. How else would you send your letters?!

Pen and paper. It doesn’t have to be fancy, you can just grab a simple piece of paper and get writing. If you are looking for something a little fancier then I often find that you can print out lovely paper patterns that can be found on Pinterest.

Envelopes. These can be a simple envelope or something a little bit more exciting. If you do opt for a simple envelope then try decorating it. Once again, Pinterest is full of inspiration for envelope art.

I hope this post helped those who are looking for a penpal!

Stumbled across your blog and really enjoyed this post. I’m a Peace Corps Volunteer and am looking for people to help me out with a project for my English class in Mozambique. There’s more info on the Postcard Project tab on my blog. Let me know if you’d be able to help out
